HSBC Private Equity (Asia) Limited (HPEA)

HPEA advised its first Asian fund in 1989. During its history, HPEA has advised funds with aggregate capital of approximately USD3.5 billion. HPEA is an active adviser that works closely with portfolio companies to achieve strong business and investment results. Funds advised by HPEA have invested approximately USD2 billion in over 136 Asian companies and have a track record of achieving attractive returns and cash distributions to investors. The HSBC Group's Asian network and HPEA's own contacts and origination channels provide access to a wide range of investment opportunities. The HSBC Group is a substantial investor in the funds advised by HPEA.

Private Equity Funds

HPEA began advising private equity funds in 1989 and is currently adviser to its fifth and sixth Private Equity Funds.  All of the four prior Private Equity Funds advised by HPEA have fully realised their respective investment portfolios.

The Private Equity Funds seek to invest in mid-market expansion capital and buyout opportunities across a range of industries in established, profitable companies with experienced management teams. The principal geographic markets for investment are Greater China, South Korea, Southeast Asia and India. Principal sectors for investment include: consumer goods and services, industrial and manufacturing, and electronics and technology.

Venture Funds

HPEA began advising venture funds in 2001 and is currently adviser to three Venture Funds. The initial two Venture Funds advised by HPEA are fully invested and committed and each of the funds has an attractive track record of investment realisations.

The Venture Funds typically target investment opportunities in early to mid-stage, technology-focused and high growth businesses in Asia. The funds’ geographic focus is on China, Taiwan, South Korea, India and certain countries in Southeast Asia.
