About us
Established in 2007, Principal Investments Africa is HSBC's dedicated principal investment arm for Africa. Our philosophy is to develop partnerships with African businesses and relationship clients of HSBC in management buyouts, growth capital and recapitalisation opportunities. Our team has dedicated investment professionals with local knowledge of the region, and access to HSBC's global and regional networks. Our equity and equity-linked investments range from USD10 million up to USD50 million per transaction in companies across a range of industries.

| In July 2008, Principal Investments invested in O3b Networks Limited ('O3b'), a global telecommunications venture launching satellites to deliver a high speed broadband alternative to traditional fibre/cable in equatorial emerging markets. Principal Investments co-invested alongside Google Inc. and Liberty Global Inc. Other sponsors include North Bridge Venture Partners, Allen & Company LCC and SES, the world's leading provider of satellite-based broadcasting and telecommunications services. O3b will innovatively use existing satellite technology to increase access and quality of internet services in Africa, India, Latin America, Middle East and South East Asia. |

| In September 2008, Principal Investments invested in the New Forests Company Uganda (UK) Ltd ('NFC'), a commercial, environmentally sustainable and socially responsible forestry company established in Uganda. NFC is recognised as the largest tree planter in Uganda and plans to develop a vertically-integrated forestry business, seeking to focus on all aspects of the value chain. NFC has achieved FSC certification for its Ugandan plantations and has a strong commitment to CSR focusing on education, health, clear water and income generation. NFC will deliver both attractive returns and significant social and environmental benefits. |

Sajjad Sabur, Managing Director, Head of Principal Investments, Africa Tel: 44 20 7992 2560 Mr Sabur joined HSBC in 2005 bringing with him over 12 years of investment banking experience. During his career, he has acted as financial adviser, senior lender, mezzanine lender and equity investor to transactions totalling over USD7.5bn across a variety of sectors and geographies. In addition to his work with a variety of clients at HSBC, he was instrumental in establishing the Middle East and North African Infrastructure Fund ("MENA Infrastructure Fund"). Prior to joining HSBC, Mr Sabur worked at Hambros Bank, SG and CIT Structured Finance. He read Economics BA (Hons), is a qualified accountant and has an MBA from the London Business School. |

Adit Gadgil, Investment Manager Tel: 44 20 7991 3158 Mr Gadgil joined the HSBC Group in 2005 and the Principal Investments Africa team in 2008 where he has coverage responsibility for East Africa. Prior to this, he spent two years in the Large Corporates banking team in Australia progressing to Relationship Manager, and later in the private equity funds distribution team in London reporting to the Global Head of Distribution. Prior to HSBC, Mr Gadgil worked in the Corporate Lending group at GE Capital in the portfolio management team, having responsibility for monitoring and reporting on asset-backed loans to mid market companies. Mr Gadgil is a double degree holder in Business (Banking and Finance) and Computing from Monash University and also holds the CFA charter. |

Ore Adeyemi, Investment Manager Tel: 44 20 7991 8249 Mr Adeyemi joined the HSBC Group in 2006 and the Principal Investments Africa team in 2008 where he has coverage responsibility for West Africa. Prior to joining HSBC Principal Investments, Mr Adeyemi was an Associate with HSBC's Investment Banking Group on the Mergers and Acquisition team, where he worked on a wide range of M&A transactions, including buy-side advisory for auction processes, public take-overs and complex hostile mandates. Mr Adeyemi has also worked for the management consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton as a Senior Consultant, where he helped define business strategies, and developed business cases for investment decisions. Mr Adeyemi has an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management, and also a Bachelor of Science degree from MIT. |

Tobi Oke, Investment Associate Tel: 44 20 7991 4081 Mr Oke joined the HSBC Group and the Principal Investments Africa team in 2009. Prior to joining HSBC Principal Investments, he worked with Actis LLP as an associate. Mr Oke also worked for the management consulting firm Booz & Company as a Senior Consultant where he was involved in various Private Equity projects, conducting due diligence, defining business strategy and informing investment decisions. As a senior software engineer with Motorola he built and developed one of the first commercial Telematics systems. Mr Oke has an MBA from the London Business School and holds an MEng in Information Systems Engineering with a specialisation in Advanced Radio Technology from Imperial College, London. |
