MBA Summer Associate Programme

Who can apply

Our 10-week summer internship for the Global Banking Advisory and Global Markets businesses takes place each year in London, Hong Kong and New York. If you are an ambitious first-year MBA student you could join us and face new challenges as you find out what our Full-time Associate Programme and a long-term career at HSBC could be like.

The core elements

Your internship will start with a one-week induction including IT and technical training tailored to your business area. Then, you'll begin a nine-week placement with a team in the business area of your choice. You could become involved in a live project or a number of transactions to give you first-hand experience of life at HSBC. Your day-to-day role will be supplemented by regular business and social events to help you build your brand and network.

An insight into HSBC

Through both formal training and daily experience, you'll gain an insight into HSBC's competitive advantages in markets and the financial services industry. Throughout the programme, you'll continue to deepen your understanding of our business, strategy and customers so you can enhance your contribution and impact.

Building your network

The Summer Associate Programme will let you establish a network of peers and leaders across Global Banking and Markets. You'll be expected to build and leverage this network to maximise your effectiveness throughout your 10 weeks with us. In return, your network will provide you with the support and education you need to succeed at HSBC.

Developing your knowledge

The mix of practical experience and training will help you develop the knowledge and the technical business skills you'll need to succeed. Along with a dedicated programme manager, regular business feedback on your performance from your line manager and colleagues will help you maximise your development throughout the summer. You'll also be allocated a buddy to share ideas, give you guidance and provide all-round support.

What you can expect

The ultimate aim of the Summer Associate Programme is to support you in developing the skills that will help you become a full-time Associate in Global Banking or Global Markets. When you join, you'll be assessed on your technical knowledge, analytical skills, communication skills, teamwork and attitude. Your line manager will set measurable objectives at the beginning, manage your performance throughout your 10 weeks, and conduct your mid-programme and end-of-programme reviews, offering support and guidance throughout.
