Your options and career development
Compliance
The Compliance team manages HSBC's relationships with global regulators, protecting our reputation and promoting our culture of trust, integrity and accountability.
Broadly, our objectives fall into three categories:
- Enabling HSBC to prove to regulatory authorities that we are behaving in a fit and proper fashion
- Helping line management to comply with regulations
- Helping the bank avoid sanctions
Intellectually challenging work
The future of compliance is both complex and intellectually challenging, requiring this department to continue to predict future trends, provide ever more valuable advice to the business and develop more sophisticated training.
Recognising the trends
Our compliance model is based on recognising potential trends and hotspots and acting on them in advance. It is an approach that has kept us ahead of the market. For instance, our strict policies on anti-bribery and ethical standards were in place already ahead of the UK government enforcing laws in this area.
Global Infrastructure – Compliance Analyst
The Compliance programme is very specific and very structured. Typically, your six-week induction will be followed by a rotation in a front office team. This will allow you to understand the goals and pressures faced by an important part of the Bank. This experience will be invaluable, allowing you to support front office teams effectively throughout your career.
Developing your understanding
Following this, you will take on three further rotations in a variety of Compliance and/or operational risk teams. There may also be the possibility of an international rotation. The sheer diversity of the work you will do during these two years will develop your understanding of Global Banking and Markets and the complex regulatory frameworks surrounding it.
Highly regarded work
Compliance is visible at the most senior levels of HSBC where it is very highly regarded. You can look forward to working closely with senior managers during each rotation. Your expertise will be sought across the organisation, especially as the regulatory requirements become ever more rigorous.
Being dependable
As with all areas of HSBC, the Compliance team is fully committed to the organisation's three core values: dependable, open and connected. It is the first of these that particularly resonates in this team. We are looking for confident, diplomatic, intellectually curious individuals to be the influential compliance officers of tomorrow.
"One of the core responsibilities of the Compliance team is protecting HSBC's reputation. HSBC has an excellent name as a world-class, client-orientated financial institution, and people in my team are really motivated to keep it that way. This sense that we are doing something worthwhile makes the atmosphere a very positive one." Luis Vicente Sierra, Compliance Analyst
Summer Analyst Programme
The HSBC Summer Analyst Programme lasts for 10 weeks and is designed for ambitious penultimate year university students. This is a non-rotational programme taking place predominantly in our main hubs: London, New York, Hong Kong and Dubai. Our extensive range of opportunities covers all areas of Global Banking, Global Markets, Global Research, all areas of Global Infrastructure, HTS GBM Technology, Global Asset Management and Global Private Banking.
Whichever discipline you choose, the programme will act as a comprehensive introduction to that area of the Bank. Your programme will provide you with the platform to be considered for our Full-Time Analyst Programme. You will have the opportunity to show your genuine potential and develop the behaviours, skills and experience essential to enjoy a long-term career with us at HSBC.
The programme will comprise hands-on experience, excellent technical, behavioural and IT skills training and the opportunity to form very important networks with peers and business leaders alike. Just as importantly, each programme will act as an introduction to the culture and values of HSBC.
