Leveraged and Acquisition Finance

The Leveraged and Acquisition Finance team (LAF) arranges and underwrites debt to finance event-driven corporate transactions (ie acquisitions), infrastructure transactions and leveraged buyouts by Private Equity clients as well as corporate flow business for Investment Grade borrowers. This debt comes in the form of bank loans, bridge loans, working capital facilities and the issue of high-yield bonds.

HSBC has a history of LAF Graduate Schemes in the US and now, in addition, we are launching programmes in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and Asia-Pacific. The programme will cover all aspects of debt financing from Origination to Structuring to Sales and Syndication, and will comprise rotations covering the two key areas of the business: Origination and Sales and Syndication.

Working in Origination you will experience cross-border and European and Asia-Pacific transactions. You will structure complex debt products including bespoke 'event' financings, term debt and mezzanine debt. In Sales and Syndication, you will use the Bank's close relationships with other banks and investors in the market to ensure that the debt is efficiently and successfully distributed.

This is a risk-focused environment which supports the financing needs of our Investment Grade and Sub-Investment Grade core clients. You will work in a pressurised environment alongside other groups within HSBC including Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets, Mergers and Acquisitions and Investment Banking.

Developing your judgement

As an Analyst, you will develop financial modelling, credit analysis and legal documentation skills. You will learn to evaluate propositions, structure debt products and negotiate with clients.

A test of your character

We are looking for numerate graduates who are interested in developing a career in Capital Markets. You should be confident working with numbers, be articulate and collegial, and have the flexibility to respond to changing circumstances and the decisiveness to grab opportunities when they present themselves. Equally, an analytical mind and good presentation skills are essential, as you will have to guide clients through complex transactions. LAF has a flat structure, so you will need the strength of character to work with very senior colleagues and handle meaningful work from day one.

"This is a collegial environment with a flat structure. This guarantees exposure to senior management and value-add work from the outset. You will work in teams on each transaction and be given responsibility to deliver critical parts of a transaction." Jackie Allen, Leveraged and Acquisition Finance

The HSBC Summer Analyst Programme lasts for 10 weeks and is designed for ambitious penultimate year university students. This is a non-rotational programme taking place predominantly in our main hubs: London, New York, Hong Kong and Dubai. Our extensive range of opportunities covers all areas of Global Banking, Global Markets, Global Research, all areas of Global Infrastructure, HTS GBM Technology, Global Asset Management and Global Private Banking.

Whichever discipline you choose, the programme will act as a comprehensive introduction to that area of the Bank. Your programme will provide you with the platform to be considered for our Full-Time Analyst Programme. You will have the opportunity to show your genuine potential and develop the behaviours, skills and experience essential to enjoy a long-term career with us at HSBC.
