In addition to our Full-Time Analyst and Associate programmes, we offer ten-week Summer Analyst and Associate Programmes for ambitious, forward-thinking students who want a head start. These programmes are not solely introductions to HSBC; they are your chance to make a name for yourself. Though we recruit for full time Analysts and MBA Associates directly from campus, we fill a substantial number of our opportunities with those who impress us on the programmes.

Full Time Global Businesses Analyst Programme (GBAP)

Gain a deep, global understanding

Our programme will provide you with a deep understanding of HSBC’s competitive advantages, strategy and clients. It will start with an in-depth four-to-six week induction for all our Analysts globally, held at a key location in London, which acts as an introduction to our culture, strategy and values. The technical and regulatory training you receive will be bespoke to your programme area and ensures you have the skills and knowledge to successfully start your career at HSBC. This is complemented by a core behavioural skills programme covering such aspects as influencing and presentation styles, critical in a client-facing business.

Summer Analyst Programme

Our ten-week Summer Analyst Programme is designed for ambitious penultimate year university students. This non-rotational programme takes place predominantly in our main hubs: London, New York, Hong Kong and Dubai with an extensive range of opportunities across Global Banking, Global Markets, Global Research, Global Infrastructure, HTS GBM Technology, Global Asset Management and Global Private Banking.

Whichever business area you apply to, this programme will provide you with the platform to be considered for our Full-Time Analyst Programme. You will have the opportunity to show your genuine potential and develop the behaviours, skills and experience essential to enjoy a long-term career with us at HSBC.

The core elements

Your internship will comprise three essential elements. Our Summer Analyst Programme will launch with a one-week induction including technical, behavioural and IT skills training providing you with the skills you need for a successful start with your chosen business area. Throughout the programme you will gain lots of hands-on experience, taking an active role in contributing to your team. This will be complemented by regular informational, networking and social events enabling you to build relationships and enhance your network.

Through both formal training and day-to-day real-life experience in the business, you will gain an insight into our competitive advantages in the markets and the financial services industry. In turn, throughout the programme, you will continue to deepen your understanding of our business, strategy and customers, enhancing your contribution and impact.

Building your network

Our Summer Analyst Programme will provide you with the invaluable opportunity to establish a global network of peers and leaders across HSBC. In an industry such as ours, you will be expected to build and leverage this network to maximise your effectiveness.

Developing your knowledge

The programme’s mix of practical experience, coaching and training will enable you to develop the behaviours, knowledge and technical business skills you need to be a success. Regular feedback and two-way communication on your performance from your line manager, buddy and Analyst Development Advisor will help you maximise your potential and development throughout the summer.

Ongoing support

At every stage, you will be able to call upon your Analyst Development Advisor and line manager for coaching and advice regarding your personal development. You will also be partnered with a buddy to share ideas, give you guidance and provide all-round support.

Pass your assessments

The ultimate aim of the Summer Analyst Programme is to support you in developing the skills that will enable you to become a successful Full-Time Analyst at HSBC. Therefore, we recommend that you view your internship as an extended assessment.

Full Time Associate Programme

The long-term success of HSBC depends on recruiting bright, culturally aware, internationally-focused individuals with the potential to reach senior positions in the bank. The HSBC MBA Associate Programme exists to help this happen.

This programme is designed to build on the skills, experience and knowledge you have gained on your MBA course, your first degree and in the workplace. It is a diverse mixture of business experience, classroom learning and people exposure. You will experience hands-on, active roles, gain an in-depth insight into HSBC, receive continuous development, assessment and support from a variety of stakeholders, and be given the opportunity to create business networks that maximize your knowledge and credibility.

Absorbing work

In Global Banking [Advisory], you will work on advisory and capital raising transactions involving domestic, cross-border and emerging markets clients. In Global Markets, you will be exposed to a wide range of products in all asset classes. At every stage, you can depend on the support of your Associate Development Advisor and line manager who will coach, mentor and advise you.

Summer Associate Programme

We have developed a ten-week summer internship for our Global Banking [Advisory] and Global Markets business areas, taking place in a number of locations globally each year. If you are an ambitious first-year MBA student, this programme will provide you with the platform to apply for our Full-Time Associate Programme, and develop the skills and experience to enjoy a long-term career at HSBC.

Pass your assessments

The ultimate aim of the Summer Associate Programme is to support you in developing the skills that will help you become a full-time 2012 Global Banking and Markets Associate. To that end, it is a good idea to see your internship as an extended assessment centre.

Upon joining your team, you will be assessed on your technical knowledge, analytical skills, communication skills, teamwork and attitude. Your line manager will set specific and measurable objectives at the beginning, manage your performance throughout your 10 weeks with us, and conduct your mid-programme and end-of-programme reviews, offering support and guidance throughout.
