Application and interview advice

Having decided to make your application to one of HSBC's analyst, associate or intern programmes, there are a few things you should bear in mind.

The decision:

  • Make sure that you are making an informed career decision and one that is truly right for you

The application form:

  • You can complete the form in stages so take the time to ensure attention to detail, spelling and grammar
  • We don't want to receive an application to one of our competitors or a cut and paste effort
  • Remember that all degree disciplines are welcome but you do need to show us a genuine motivation for a career in financial services

The interview:

  • Do your research properly – it shows and pays dividends! And be sure to look beyond what we have written on our website and in our brochure
  • Be yourself and be honest. Integrity is one of our core values
  • We are looking for strong, well-rounded individuals with wide ranging experiences that go beyond the classroom
  • You should be able to express why you want to join us at HSBC and why you have chosen the programme you are applying to
  • Can you tell us what sets us apart? Have you got a solid argument for why you would be suitable? Practise beforehand and come prepared
  • Practise interview techniques such as the STAR technique –

    S
ituation – what was the situation?

Task – what was your task?

Action – what did you do?

Result – what was the outcome? Also, what did you learn from this situation?
