Financial Institutions Group

Customised solutions for financial institutions

HSBC's Financial Institutions Group is the client sector within Global Banking responsible for all aspects of the Group's relationships with financial institutions. The Group consists of five sub-sectors: banks and broker-dealers, insurers, public sector, asset managers and hedge funds.

Overview

Our team comprises experienced senior bankers and product specialists, each chosen for their sector-specific expertise and knowledge of global financial markets. We have over 400 bankers around the world who work closely with our clients to understand their needs, and deliver integrated and customised banking propositions.

We provide a wide range of products and services to financial institutions globally, including transactional banking facilities, strategic advice and capital raising. The main Global Banking products are credit and lending, equity capital markets, mergers and acquisitions advisory and leveraged finance.

Our main product partners within the Group are: Global Markets, Payments and Cash Management, Securities Services, Trade Services and Research. The main products within Global Markets are debt capital markets, foreign exchange, rates, credit, emerging markets and equities. We also help our clients access HSBC Global Asset Management, HSBC Private Bank and Retail Banking Wealth Management, as many are either customers of, or providers to, these divisions.

Besides offering a full range of products and services for financial institutions, we believe our proposition differentiates us from our competitors:

  • Stability
HSBC is not only one of the world's most financially stable and best-known banking institutions; we also have a substantial and highly liquid balance sheet.
  • Global presence, cross-border expertise
With offices in every developed country and in the majority of emerging market countries, we have a unique global footprint and international network. We have on-the-ground capabilities that allow us to transact for our clients around the clock, around the globe. This footprint also gives us real insight into global trade and financial flows and trends; few, if any banks, are better connected in emerging markets than HSBC.
  • Outward looking, product-agnostic
Our goal is to provide our clients with the best advice and to deliver the appropriate products and services for their business needs. We pride ourselves on providing 'product-agnostic' advice and solutions, customised to each client's specific requirements.
  • Intellectual capital
Being able to read and hear first-hand the latest views and opinions of our bankers, economists and analysts facilitate strategic development and accelerate decision-making. We believe we have a unique perspective on areas of particular interest to our financial institution clients – such as global trade flows, regulatory trends and developments, macroeconomics, industry trends and deep insight into government organisations. You can draw from our pool of 'intellectual' capital in the form of sector-specific intelligence reports, as well as in-person through our Research and Global Banking teams.
