IFR and IFR Asia Awards 2012
17 Dec 2012
HSBC has won five house awards at the IFR and IFR Asia Awards for 2012. These include Emerging Markets Bond House of the Year and Latin America Bond House of the Year in the IFR Awards, and Regional Bond House of the Year in the IFR Asia Awards.
The awards once again highlight the strength of our emerging markets-led strategy and our international connectivity, particularly in enabling south-south deals.

IFR Awards 2012
Emerging Markets Bond House of the Year
Speaking about the award, Global Head of DCM Bryan Pascoe said, "It's been a transformational year for emerging markets in general. We've done more volume for more clients in more countries and currencies than our competitors. This demonstrates the benefits of our geographic footprint and the expertise of our people."
IFR said, "The bank has executed the most FIG transactions, is the third-ranking underwriter of sovereign deals, and has brought the second-highest number of debut borrowers to the market in the period under review.
Latin America Bond House of the Year
IFR said, "Very few banks can take a Latin American borrower and help it raise money in the offshore renminbi market as it did for America Movil... One of the reasons why HSBC can execute these deals is because it has offshore teams sitting in key hubs. In its Global Banking and Markets division, HSBC has a Latin American team in Hong Kong tracking opportunities."
Katia Bouazza, Co-Head of DCM, Americas, spoke of our innovation, saying, "We are always looking for the next pockets of opportunity. Today the market is very different from what it was two or three years ago. You can't live off one product."

IFR Asia Awards 2012
Regional Bond House of the Year
IFR said, "In a record year when bond issuance reached a level that redefined Asia's capital markets, one bank presided over the boom. For its imperious dominance, its unmatched geographic reach and ability to execute the most complex of deals, HSBC is IFR Asia's Bond House of the Year."
Stephen Williams, Head of DCM, Asia-Pacific, commented, "We are the dominant bookrunner this year in G3 and we have led many of the landmark deals this year."
Dim Sum Bond House of the Year
IFR said, "Making use of its comprehensive Dim Sum bond platform, HSBC excelled across multiple sectors and geographies, leading a wide variety of groundbreaking deals throughout the year and introducing new participants to the market on both the buy- and sell-sides."
Singapore Equity House of the Year
IFR said, "[HSBC] was a bookrunner on four of the six biggest IPOs in Singapore during IFR's review period, representing sectors as diverse as real estate business trusts, plantations and retail. That is a significant achievement for a bank traditionally viewed as a bond house – and one with a far stronger presence in Hong Kong and China."
