HSBC named Global Bank of the Year by Euromoney

In Euromoney's Awards for Excellence 2009, HSBC has won Euromoney's premier award as Best Global Bank. In addition, HSBC won 16 other awards including Best Global Debt House and Best Global Transaction Banking House.

Euromoney said: "The crisis showed up which banks the markets thought were safest – and HSBC came out firmly on top." Euromoney added that 'HSBC has adopted a clear policy of focusing expansion on emerging markets, and on the international connectivity of those markets with the developed world. It is a truly global bank.'

Stuart Gulliver, Chief Executive of Global Banking and Markets, said: "These awards demonstrate the success of our emerging markets-led and financing-focused strategy.
